If Carroll stays fit then I have no problems with the squad but the prospect of Calleri as our main forward does though.

Sakho the Liverpool defender, have you watched his passing it's abysmal and he has the turning circle of the Ark Royal. I was genuinely laughing yesterday when Liverpool said they wanted £20m

Sahko a better option than Fonte ?

Club captain of the much vaunted Southampton during a period of no small success; or a bloke who is more famous for the rickets that have characterised his time with both the scum and PSG ?

Only on WHO.

zico, he didn't choose Villa. We didn't want to sign him. I heard the Villa fans think this is some big coup over us. As someone said on here, he may keep them up in the Championship but would not have propelled us into Europe in the Prem. Spot on.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
I think the problem is that because we generally play one up Carroll is obviously first choice. For example not sure if Hogan is any good but I suspect he chose Villa because he will play rather than be back up to the big man.

Only way we are going to sign a "top" striker is to a) spend serious money and b) make it clear that Carroll would be the back up from the bench. Whether Carroll would be happy with that is doubtful.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
Yes I am well aware of that, but you cannot keep buying strikers waiting for one of them to suddenly come good. You start with 23 players and if we have 5 strikers in that 23 then we don't just get a sixth, you'd need to lose at least one first. Since we didn't sell anyone, or release them or anything, we cannot possibly buy another one in a position that doesn't need filling.

You would be correct to criticise not listing or releasing a striker but until then you are wrong to criticise not trying to buy yet another one.

Why haven't you moaned about us not trying to buy a world class GK?

Same goes for RB, we have Byram and Arbeloa. Most would agree that we could do better but no club has three first team right backs so one has to go, likely Arbeloa, then we try to sign a better one than Byram.

Until you read up on how football works in this country and the parameters within which clubs have to operate you might both be better advised to refrain from calling out those of us that do understand as being thick.

That is spooky, we both wrote practically the same thing at the same moment.

If Carroll and Sakho could play for 6 months without Injury then you are right I am an Idiot.

Imagine God forbid Carroll gets Injured tonight and for three months is out, what are we going to do?.
We will have to use strikers who are not proven and this is the Premiership .

Carroll - could break down any time for rest if dead
season.

Ayew - not exactly set the world on fire. One tap in in 8 games

Calleri - shit

Fletcher - novice

Sakho - out until at least March

And you are happy with the striker situation. Just shows how ignorant you are as why would we be looking at Hogan in the first place

Thats a good point Lily, i was against the Fonte signing till i heard the Oggy news. Look forward to seeing him tonight, hopefully him and Reid can be a real strong pairing.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
I hear you Rossal, but I think I prefer Fonte around the squad, particularly the youth more than Sakho.

I had no idea that Fonte joined Saints when they were 3rd division. The fact he has worked his way up from there to being a European Champion is quite a feat. That's a better type chrachter to have around than someone like Sakho, no offence to him intended.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
I think he could be a very good cb but needs to keep his concentration up for 90 mins

My point was more on could we have taken him to do a job for 6 months till Oggy is back and then promote either Reece to 4th choice or better. Therefore we save on Fonte's wages and outlay for his transfer fee.

Fonte all day long, don't rate Sakho and that's why Liverpool want rid.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
HairyHammer, let me put this in simple terms just in case you're having a godo day and might grasp it:

We can name 23 players. First team players. Those eligible to play league fixtures, so not including youth players.

You think we should have signed a RB and a striker this month.

That would make Carroll, Sakho, Fletcher, Calleiri, Arbeloa, Byram, new striker, new right back straight off the bat. Add three GKS and we have 11 players. Add Ayew, Antonio and Lanzini as attackers and we have 14 first team players who are GK, RB or all out attackers. Now you have 9 spaces for all your LB, CB and midfield players.

Perhaps if you really want a moan, you could say that we should have done more to offload the players we would need to lose in order to create the space for new signings but to suggest we just keep adding players to an already full squad, and in positions in which we have tons of cover (whether or not you think those players are good enough) shows a really childish view of football and frankly, the view of a thicko Rod Hull cunt.

Palace have spent huge this season, if they drop be game over for them. Can't see Sunderland staying up on their transfers.....and none of the pack chasing Chelsea have strengthened enough to get near them

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
Sir Alf,
Unless you have billions like Abramovich or the Arabian Prince, the road to further success must be taken step by step. I believe that we're achieving that.

No problem with that Alfs (great name btw) ;-) but wish the owners would pipe down with the promises and unrealistic expectations and say just that.

In our position we need to be in the market for the best young prospects. Some will not work out but we might get some sell on value and also might get a few world class players too. Trying to buy the finished article is simply beyond S & Gs finances and the top players will have better options.

Make you spot on there mate!

I'm glad we didn't waste money on Hogan, who was clearly a player Bilic didn't rate (plus another injury gamble)

The number of quality strikers available is very limited (& will get increasingly so as more are tempted to China for mega bucks) & even fewer are available mid season

Very few clubs seem to have spent big this window

The 2 players brought in are proven premiereship quality & should strengthen he squad

We brought too many players in at once in the summer which was one of the main reasons for our rocky start to the season in my opinion
